SPRING/SUMMER 2009

W hen the mercury starts to rise, opportunities in Milwaukee for entertainment, celebration and fun abound. From a non-stop parade of ethnic festivals and sizzling arts and entertainment to one-of-a-kind attractions and urban outdoor adventure, this Jewel of the Great Lakes offers all of the excitement of a big city at prices that won't break the bank.

Heralded as the "City of Festivals," Milwaukee showcases its rich heritage with a procession of ethnic and cultural celebrations throughout the summer. The Henry W. Maier Festival Park along the shores of Lake Michigan becomes a portal to the world as visitors are invited to explore the arts, history, recreation, cuisine, music and genealogy of a new culture nearly every weekend. The grounds are also home to Summerfest, the world's largest music festival. This 11-day extravaganza fills 10 stages and its lakefront amphitheater with an incredible, non-stop mix of national headliners, straight from Billboard chart toppers to a steady dose of music legends.

Summer in Milwaukee also means free outdoor concerts including the weekly Jazz in the Park series on Cathedral Square and River Rhythms each Wednesday evening in Pere Marquette Park. You can leave your wallet at home when you head over to River Flicks, an August Friday night series of outdoor family films shown along the banks of the Milwaukee River. There's no charge to celebrate Miller Time so be sure to visit MillerCoors where all tours end at the Historic Miller Inn with complimentary, frosty samples. Summer in Milwaukee just proves that some of the best things in life are free.

The city houses over two dozen museums, two thriving theater districts, a unique retail scene, culinary offerings sure to please any palate, 15,000 acres of parkland, five swimming beaches and the best fishing in all of the Great Lakes. In other words, there's plenty to keep everyone entertained!
