With an abundance of museums, nightlife venues, historic sites and natural attractions, Missouri indeed has something for everyone. Take a look for yourself and see why so many say the Show-Me State is close to home, but far from ordinary.
Thrill-seekers can head to Kansas City to plummet 85 feet down on the Prowler, Worlds of Fun's newest all-wood roller coaster debuting this spring; get wet and wild on the new Wahoo Racer at Six Flags' Hurricane Harbor in St. Louis; or have a high-flying adventure on the Giant Swing at Silver Dollar City in Branson.
Animal lovers can touch and feed stingrays at a new St. Louis Zoo exhibit or check out the primates, mammals and birds in the new indoor rainforest exhibit at the Kansas City Zoo. Families will enjoy Toonfest in Marceline, Walt Disney's hometown and source of inspiration, or Kansas City's Jiggle Jam Family Festival, a day of music, entertainment and activities for kids of all ages.
Outdoor enthusiasts can soak up the state's natural beauty by hiking or biking along the 225-mile Katy Trail that winds along the Missouri River. Other options: trout fishing at Bennett Spring State Park or paddling the crystal clear streams of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Central Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks boasts major water sports and entertainment.
Interested in history? Visit the Harry S. Truman home and museum in Independence; see Thomas Hart Benton's "Social History of Missouri" mural at the state capitol in Jefferson City; tour the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder near Mansfield; or roam the grounds of the Jesse James Farm in Kearney.
