MissouriProvided by Missouri Department of Tourism When the days are getting shorter and the trees proudly display their fall color, create your own getaway and explore Missouri. Enjoy a scenic drive, experience the wine country, hike a state park, or savor the local flavor at a fall festival. From the big cities to the small country towns, Missouri captures the spirit of the season. St. Louis plays host to Missouri Botanical Garden’s Harvest Festival at Shaw Nature Reserve, offering visitors music, food prepared by top local restaurants, and locally grown produce. The aroma of hickory and oak flood the air in Kansas City during the American Royal Barbecue, an event known as the “World Series” of barbecue. Experience a simpler time with a visit to Hannibal, home of Mark Twain, where artisans and street musicians lure visitors to their Autumn Historic Folklife Festival. Sip and sample food and wine pairings at seven wineries along 20 scenic miles from Hermann to New Haven at the Holiday Fair Wine Trail. Fresh cider, apple dumplings and homemade root beer are on the menu at Weston’s Applefest, just north of Kansas City. Choose a trail and hike your way through oak-hickory forests, sunny glades and bluff-top vistas with spectacular lake views at Lake of the Ozarks State Park. From limestone bluffs to gently rolling farm fields, Missouri’s diverse landscape is visible as you bike Katy Trail State Park. Float along densely forested shorelines in the crystal-clear waters of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways in southeast Missouri. Kansas City kicks off the holiday season with the illumination of more than 80 miles of lights at the Country Club Plaza. While shopping, view the mayor’s Christmas tree at Crown Center. Jefferson City and Columbia shopkeepers stage live holiday performances in their storefront windows during the Windows Festival. Enjoy Christmas parades, gift shops and a five-story Christmas tree in Branson, home to An Old Time Christmas, one of the top Christmas celebrations in the country.
