SPRING/SUMMER 2009

Surrounded by the deep blue waters of the Straits of Mackinac between Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas, Mackinac Island offers visitors a summer experience like no other.

The town bustles with activity, offering vacationers plenty of opportunities to stop for everything from clothing and decorations to famous Mackinac Island fudge and full-fledged fine dining.

With no automobiles on Mackinac Island, visitors are free to enjoy leisurely carriage tours, hiking, biking and trail riding. Nature lovers can take the beautiful ride which follows the lakeshore all the way around the island, stopping to take in the striking natural wonders of Mackinac Island State Park's Arch Rock, Devil's Kitchen and Sugar Loaf.

Visitors can't help but be immersed in the island's rich history. The John Jacob Astor Museum celebrates Mackinac Island's fur trade and its importance in Great Lakes History, the Tower at Mission Point Resort explores the maritime history of our region within the context of America's creation, and Surrey Hills Antique Carriage Museum speaks to Mackinac's historic horse culture.

Guests of the island can also enjoy Fort Mackinac. Located atop the island and looking much as it did when it was built in 1780, Fort Mackinac fascinates its guests with tours and re-enactments that include firing of a cannon.

At the other end of town, visible from the fort's high ground beyond the long look down Main Street and over the trees, is the famous Grand Hotel, the architectural icon of the island and a place that sets the standard for accommodations and service that permeates all of the island's lodging.

Mackinac Island is a wonderful place to spend your summer vacation and offers a wide array of accommodations that include resorts, hotels, historic inns, bed & breakfasts, apartments, condominiums, town homes and home rentals amenities travelers have come to expect, from economical to extravagant.
