Travelers to Illinois will get an un-matched experience this fall and winter through an abundance of events and activities perfect for exploring Illinois.
Fall-O-Ween, which runs through the end of November, is the state’s distinctive, not-to-be missed "fifth" season, guaranteed to provide travelers with the best in family-friendly festivals, spooky spectacles, and gorgeous fall colors. This fall, every corner of the state will be packed with exciting new events and always-popular fall activities that will beckon travelers to explore the sights and sounds of this exciting time of year.
While in Chicago, enjoy myriad celebrations for each change of season. During the fall, ghoulish goblins and devilish demons will call Navy Pier home during Halloween and children will love the Pumpkin Plaza (Daley Plaza) where the Haunted Village hosts pumpkin decorating, scary storytellers and the high-flying aerialists of the Midnight Circus. In November, Michigan Avenue kicks off the holiday season with flair during the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival when more than one million lights twinkle along North Michigan Avenue.
For family fun at any age, head out to a pumpkin patch or get lost in a cowboy-themed corn maze. The Great Godfrey Corn Maze features a 2.4-acre maze that’s filled with twists, turns and dead ends! On weekend evenings throughout October, the maze becomes haunted with ghost and ghouls. Another seasonal favourite, the Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur, offers more then 400 varieties of pumpkins and gourds, plus mazes, farm animals and a bakery.
The holiday season is never complete in Illinois without the nationally-recognized lights festivals. The East Peoria Festival of Lights (Nov. 24 – Dec. 31) was ranked on the Top 100 Events in North America in 2005, the festival offers more than a million lights producing images that range from Santa Claus to menorahs. The festival kicks off with a spectacular parade.
